Treating pain is about more than treating where it hurts.
It means understanding where the pain is coming from, recognizing how it has affected a person’s life, and creating a thoughtful path toward the life they want to return to.
As Chief Medical Officer of All of Pain, Dr. Scott Maddalo helps lead the organization’s clinical philosophy with a focus on high clinical standards, precision, and deeply personalized care.
His clinical practice focuses on Interventional Pain Management and incorporates approaches used in Interventional Orthopedics and Regenerative Medicine, including image guided musculoskeletal procedures when clinically appropriate. In addition to providing individualized patient care, he helps guide clinical standards, physician development, and the overall direction of medical care across All of Pain.
A former ice hockey player, Dr. Maddalo graduated from NYU School of Medicine and completed his residency in Anesthesiology and fellowship in Pain Medicine at NYU Langone Health. His medical education and advanced specialty training form the foundation of his approach to chronic pain and complex musculoskeletal conditions.
Ice hockey remains an important part of his life today. He also enjoys collecting vintage watches, exploring different cuisines with his family, and spending time with his dog. Because he values relationships and meaningful experiences in his own life, he brings that same perspective to patient care, looking beyond a condition or diagnosis to understand the person behind it. Recognizing that every patient has a different life, different priorities, and different goals is where his approach to care begins.
For Dr. Maddalo, good medicine does not stop at identifying where the pain is. It begins with understanding why the pain is there in the first place.
With extensive experience in image guided procedures using fluoroscopy and ultrasound, he carefully evaluates each patient and, when appropriate, emphasizes precise, minimally invasive treatment.
Rather than applying the same approach to every patient, he develops an individualized treatment plan that considers the source of the pain, the patient’s current condition, treatment goals, lifestyle, and the life they hope to return to.
But precision alone does not define exceptional care.
At the center of it is trust.
Dr. Maddalo believes that good medicine begins with listening.
He takes the time to understand not only the pain a patient is experiencing, but also how that pain has affected their daily life. He explains complex medical information in clear, understandable terms and discusses available treatment options thoroughly so patients can understand their condition, participate meaningfully in decisions, and feel informed throughout their care.
At the heart of this approach is one guiding principle:
A patient should never be defined by a diagnosis alone.
Every patient has a story.
Something they want to do again.
A goal they want to reach.
And a life they want to return to.
Dr. Maddalo believes that exceptional care begins with understanding that person.
As Chief Medical Officer, he brings these principles beyond his own clinical practice. He provides clinical leadership across All of Pain, helping shape how providers approach patient care, how clinical decisions are made, and the standards that guide the organization as a whole.
Precision in medicine.
High standards in care.
And medicine centered on the individual.
The principles Dr. Scott Maddalo has followed throughout his career as a physician now help define the clinical standards he advances across All of Pain as Chief Medical Officer.
This is the All of Pain standard.
