Dr. Ryan Kim, DO

Interventional Pain Management

Residency: Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University

Fellowship: NASS-Accredited Interventional Pain Medicine, Center for Advanced Pain Management and Rehabilitation

Dr. Ryan Kim specializes in the precise diagnosis and targeted treatment of complex spine, joint, muscle, tendon, and nerve conditions. His approach begins with a simple but essential principle: meaningful treatment starts with understanding exactly where pain is coming from and how it is affecting the individual behind it.

Rather than focusing only on symptoms, Dr. Kim takes a detailed, diagnostic-driven approach to uncover the underlying source of pain. He incorporates advanced diagnostic tools, including musculoskeletal ultrasound and electrodiagnostic testing such as EMG and nerve conduction studies, when clinically appropriate. By combining these findings with a careful physical examination and a thorough understanding of each patient’s history, he develops individualized treatment strategies designed around the specific condition, lifestyle, and goals of each patient.

Dr. Kim’s procedural expertise spans a broad range of image-guided and minimally invasive treatments. He performs fluoroscopic and ultrasound-guided injections, epidural steroid injections, selective nerve root blocks, radiofrequency ablation, nerve hydrodissection, prolotherapy, and regenerative treatments including platelet-rich plasma therapy, or PRP.

For patients living with persistent or more complex pain conditions, Dr. Kim also has expertise in advanced neuromodulation therapies, including spinal cord stimulation and peripheral nerve stimulation. His goal is not simply to perform a procedure, but to thoughtfully determine which treatment, if any, is most appropriate for the individual patient.

For Dr. Kim, exceptional care begins with listening.

Pain can affect far more than physical comfort. It can interfere with work, sleep, movement, relationships, exercise, and the everyday activities that give life its rhythm. Dr. Kim takes the time to understand not only a patient’s symptoms, but also how those symptoms are affecting the way they live.

He believes patients should feel informed and confident about their care. Diagnoses, imaging findings, and treatment options are explained clearly, allowing patients to understand the reasoning behind each recommendation and take an active role in decisions about their health.

This collaborative approach allows Dr. Kim to create evidence-based treatment plans that are highly individualized rather than one-size-fits-all. Whether a patient’s goal is returning to work without discomfort, getting back to exercise, playing with their children, traveling, or simply moving more freely through everyday life, Dr. Kim keeps that goal at the center of the treatment plan.

His clinical philosophy combines precision with empathy, advanced medicine with thoughtful decision-making, and technical expertise with an uncompromising attention to the individual patient.

Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Kim enjoys traveling and discovering different cultures through food. He especially enjoys exploring new restaurants with his wife and staying active through sports, particularly golf.

Above all, he values meaningful time with family and friends—an appreciation for life outside the clinic that reinforces his understanding of what patients ultimately want from their care: the ability to return to the people, experiences, and activities that matter most to them.
